Job Description:
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing budgets, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic financial advice to support business growth and profitability.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee all financial operations of the organization, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, taxation, cash flow, and treasury management.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports for senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and accounting systems to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and statutory regulations.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, prepare financial forecasts, monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions to improve financial performance.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, banking relationships, and financing arrangements to ensure the organization’s financial stability and operational efficiency.
- Supervise the preparation and maintenance of accurate accounting records, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of all tax returns and statutory obligations, including payroll taxes, VAT, income tax, and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and manage internal and external audits, implement audit recommendations, and strengthen financial control systems to safeguard company assets.
- Analyze financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and provide strategic financial advice to support business planning, investment decisions, and organizational growth.Lead, supervise, mentor, and evaluate finance and accounting staff, allocate workloads, identify training needs, and promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.
- Liaise with banks, auditors, government agencies, suppliers, and other stakeholders on financial matters and maintain professional working relationships.
- Ensure the confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity of all financial information and records.Perform any other finance and accounting duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, or Board of Directors.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in accounting or finance, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or financial management role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, budgeting, forecasting, taxation, payroll, and financial management.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing financial statements, management reports, and cash flow forecasts.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and financial policies.
- Experience in coordinating internal and external audits and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to management and stakeholders.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
